"I tried this because I wanted to get a healthy glow and because the reviews were all so wonderful. But I have to admit to being disappointed.
My skin looks a little orange, though not too bad. The worst part is the smell of the product. Some people have said it smells minty or earthy. To me it smells like iodine which reminds me of hospitals and it lingered on my hands for hours even though I immediately washed them. I haven't tried other self-tanners, so maybe this is as good as it gets, but honestly, I would not recommend this."

"When I read the reviews on this I was very skeptical but thought what the heck, i'll try it. OMG! It does everything that the reviews say! It tans perfectly and with such a nice color! No streaks and within 1/2 hour - poof! a nice tan."

"This tanner is so easy to use! The trick is to blend until its dry on your skin. The elbows and knees are always tricky, try bending them and spread tanner over those parts. Make sure to exfoliate first!! Modern Friction is wonderful to use!! Doing this also makes the self tanner stay on a lot longer!!"

"I used up the whole bottle, which has never happened before. Usually I buy a tan product and don't like it, then throw it away after it expires. I just ordered another Great Pretender. This tanner is awesome. The smell, texture, and color is great, the best I've ever used. I even use it on my face; just mix a small amount with moisturizer."

"This is the only self tanner I use! Dark color so you can see where it has been applied. I have not had problems with staining clothes or bedding (once dry). I haven't had problems with streaking (as I have with other self tanners). I really like the smell - although it does have a bit of a unique smell. Can be applied and then worn out."

"This is by far the best self tanner and believe me, I have tried a number of products. It does not streak, it goes on evenly, and it gives you a soft, medium tan, not too light, not too dark. The only thing that I don't like about it is that is smells sort of like dirt. Not real strong, but it's there. That goes away after the first day, but it doesn't outweigh the great tan that you get and it looks so natural. Love the product!"

"I tried the great pretender because of the reviews on this site. I was looking for a new self tanner after the line i used to use was discontinued. And I must say I wish I would have found this product 2 years ago. The smell was awesome, very minty and the color was sooo natural. You saw the color start to show thru within a few hours. It was no streaky or splotchy. I will never use another brand."

"I saw a friend and she was so beautifully tanned- and she is very fair...I asked her how she got so tan? She told me about the Great Pretender. I am a red head, and very pale so I was not sure how it would work, but I bought some, and it is amazing! It goes on so smooth, and with color right away, you can see where you are putting it for perfect results. It is not streaky,and gives a beautiful realistic tan. I have now been using it for at least 3 years! I never get a "real tan" anymore!"

"The Great Pretender self-taner is a winner! This product provides the best coverage of any self-tanner I have ever tried. It does cost more than a product I would purchase at the pharmacy, but I do not need to apply it as often. At a recent party for our 30th anniversary , several people commented on my tan. Too bad they didn't say I looked thinner!"

"I have used The Great Pretender for years. I love it. I have fair skin, and it is perfect for me. It seem to work with the color of your skin, giving a more natural looking tan. No accidental orange or dark brown streaks. it blends beautifully. Besides being easy to work with, it has a pleasant scent, and I really like the subtle shimmer it lends to the skin. I use it on my face as well. Even though Origins makes a great sunless tanning cream for the face. But, that's how much I like it. What can I say, I'm hooked."
